ISO/TS 16949 implementation, when done correctly, does not require you to adopt unfamiliar procedures but can be based on matching your current activities to address the TS requirements. We always begin by documenting your processes as they are. Then we verify and document that all of the TS 16949 requirements are met by your current processes. Usually nothing more than "tweaking" is required to bring your processes up to the TS level.
The benefits of ISO/TS 16949:2009 include:
Improved and consistent registrar oversight and auditor training
Process based audits focusing on customer satisfaction
Global acceptance of the standard in place of 3 European standards
Incorporation of improvements learned through the implementation of QS-9000.
ISO/TS 16949:2009, based on the eight quality management principle, specifies the quality system requirements for the design/ development, production, installation and servicing of automotive-related products. It also creates an implementation framework for customer specific requirements, and includes clear requirements for development processes, and techniques to prevent problems in the earliest possible stage of product development.
The requirements defined in the ISO/TS 16949:2009 are basically specification which aligns existing US, German, French and Italian automotive quality system standards within the global automotive industry. This standard is applicable to all manufacturers of parts which go into vehicle directly or indirectly in the automotive supply chain & for all organizations wanting to strategically advance their QM system. The applicability requirements have been defined by IATF in such a way that producers of tools or of parts not intended for use in cars or providers of indirect services (for example engineering) are not eligible for ISO/TS 16949 certification.
ISO/TS 16949 certification of your management system offers a decisive advantage in demonstrating that your company matches these criteria.
The eight quality management principles (all fundamental to good business practice):
Customer focus
Leadership
Involvement of people
Process approach
System approach to management
